Ashwini Amberkar

My work focuses mainly on ‘figure’ as its subject. I developed drawing and painting humans naturally. And now it has become the most important part of my oeuvre. Over the past two-three years, I began drawing figures by looking in the mirror or referring to photographs and using colours as a means of expression, which is one of the things that drive me the most and helps me connect and interact with the subject. This has helped my work evolve into a visceral, expressive style and an art language that does not depend on photorealism. Figures offer me boundless opportunities for narrative and expression. I am in pursuit of studying and learning deeply about this subject and hence have enrolled in a course of human anatomy. However new, the idea of art and science interdisciplinary interests me the most. I find it inspiring. It makes me curious and motivates me to learn more and make more art.
